Introduction

Welcome to Code Club 2018/19! We're really glad you're here, and hope that you enjoy the coding projcets we're about to all do together.

So some of you have coded before, which is great! But some of you perhaps haven't... which is OK too :)

To kick us off, let's have a quick look at how we're going to make the most of Code Club. Any questions, just ask!

Getting started...

To get started on these Scratch projects, you'll need an account on the Scratch website. Click below to access the site:

Instructions:

  1. Log in with the username and password we give you.
  2. Change your password! If you want to, make a note of your password.
  3. To start your project, click on the 'Create' button.

Enough already! Let's get coding!

To kick off Code Club, we're going to start with a Scratch project. Click on the link below, which will take you to the first Scratch project instructions. If you've already done this project before, but want to have another go and customise it some more, then feel free :)

  • star Rock Band Code your own musical instruments!

Skills:

  • Sprites - choose sprites and position them in your code;
  • Events - learn how to make your code react when the user does something;
  • Sounds and music - code your project to make sounds;
  • Create multiple costumes for sprites;
  • Change costumes under certain conditions;
  • Create code using sequential code blocks.


Challenges:

  • "Improving your drum" - Changing sprite sounds and adding events;
  • "Changing your singer’s costume" - adding and controlling sprite costumes;
  • "Make your own band" - using the skills learnt to create new instruments.

And finally...

What to do when you're done:

  1. Give your project a name.
  2. Save your project!
  3. Click on share to share your project.
  4. Click on your username in the top-right of the screen, and select 'My Stuff' from the list.
  5. Find your project, and in the 'add to' list, select this week's class.
  6. Click on your username again, and this time select 'My Class'.
  7. Have a look at everyone else's projects, and give an encouraging comment!
